Monsters - Series 1
The Sontarans (Part 1 - Alexa Foster: Mystery Woman)
The Sontarans are a race of belligerent and militaristic clones from the planet Sontar. They wage eternal war throughout Mutter's Spiral against the Rutan Host. The Sontarans are humanoids with large, bulbous heads and short stocky bodies. They have grey-brown skin and deep set features. Sontarans generally have three digits on each hand (two fingers and a thumb). Some Sontarans also have vestigial hair, generally in the form of beards, which grow white with age and their blood is the colour of green.
The Sontarans reproduce by cloning, meaning each Sontaran is nearly identical to each other. There are some variations over time, such as the number of fingers or skin colour. As a nurse, at least one Sontaran has been gene-spliced for nursing purposes, such as the ability to produce breast milk. They use mass cloning techniques that allow their hatcheries to produce up to a million Sontarans in four minutes. The rare Pureblood Sontaran have increased status and are higher in the hierarchy. Occasionally, genetic defects will crop up and the afflicted Sontarans would perform menial labour.
Due to Sontar's high gravity, the Sontarans have great strength and resilience in lower gravity environments like Earth or Gallifrey. However, Sontaran muscles are designed for load bearing rather than leverage. They are vulnerable to Coronic acid, which burnt, or in some cases disintegrated them. If severely wounded, a Sontaran will enter an anabolic coma. They will usually die, but sometimes they will later wake. They absorb energy via the probic vent on the back of their necks. This vent is also their crucial weakness, as any sudden blow to the vent would stun them. The penetration of a sharp object into the vent will kill them.

The Zygons (Part 2 - Shape-Shifters)
The Zygons are a race of metamorphic humanoids. They originate from the planet Zygor, but often try to migrate away from it. Zygons are solidly built humanoids with large, cone-shaped heads. Their heads, arms and torsos are covered in suckers, and they have deeply inset faces. Zygons have dark red blood and speak in a gurgling whisper. They are stronger than humans and can live for centuries. They also have an earthy, iron odour and the ability to sting people with venomous barbs on their palms. These stings can stun, maim or kill. They leave large welts on the affected area. Young Zygons are called hatchlings and are slimy and pale with shorter limbs. Hatchlings are mute, but much faster than adults. A Zygon is easily hypnotised. Zygons have a deeply ingrained fear of fire. They can be easily hypnotised by a clock's swinging pendulum.
Zygons appear to have two different sexes, but this is not true. Zygons are originally an almost white colour, have no suckers and were more feminine and graceful. They are hermaphroditic, and able to singlely reproduce. It is through sterilisation that they become orange coloured, covered in suckers and more masculine in appearance. The greatest rank a Zygon can attain is "warrior engineer." To become a warrior engineer any Zygon must undergo sterilisation, a process which makes them more agressive and single-minded.
Zygon technology is partly biological, with an organic look. This is exemplified by the Skarasen, a large, cybernetically enhanced creature from Zygor. Zygons are also known to use the lactic fluid of the Skarasen as a source of food. Their use of organic ships is well known. One of the most important Zygon discoveries is their body-print technology: the Zygons capture a specimen, such as a human, and put them in a special receptacle; a Zygon can then take the form of this specimen, mimicking both voice and appearance. This body-print needs to be renewed every two hours, while the prisoners are kept alive but unconscious. Though they generally take the forms of humanoids, they can also mimic creatures of diverse sizes and shapes, such as dogs and cattle. A Zygon who can no longer transform was known as a Zynog.
To control the Skarasen, the Zygons use Trilanic activators. Zygons frequently use molecular dispersal to get rid of corpses: their ships track the life-signs of the Zygons and bring the corpse back to the ship if a Zygon was killed. They also make use of a type of nerve gas to render humans unconscious. Another Zygon discovery is called the "amber sleep", which is a type of suspended animation.

The Cybermen (Part 3 - The Human Robot)
The Cybermen of the Doctor's universe, sometimes known as Normal Space, are a race of artificially modified near-Humans who originated from the planet Mondas, Earth's twin planet.
The Cybermen take it as their primary aim to conquer the universe, converting where possible to boost their numbers. Fear of such conversion is prevalent on many worlds and so the Cybermen came to be objects of terror.
The Cybermen are cybernetically augmented humanoids. Nearly all are silver in colour, except for a black variety in the London sewers. A Mondan. Cybermen also exhibit exposed circuitry and tubing covering a rubbery or mylar-like outer skin. Cybermen frequently attempt to increase their numbers by cyber-conversion.
The Mondasians which the First Doctor met on Snowcap Base in December 1986 had undergone a less radical conversion and still retained biological hands. All other Cybermen since then have benn entirely covered by their metallic suits. Some partial conversions are known to exist that still held human features. The Cybermen have a quavering voice which put inflected syllables in a seemingly random, sing-song manner. Cyber-conversion is the process by which compatible beings are physically and mentally altered into Cybermen. This process is necessary for the Cybermen to increase in numbers. It is carried out at many locations. Partial conversions sometimes occur. The host takes on several features of the Cybermen — for example, their torso can become immune to gunfire.
Cybermen have major weaknesses. The most notable is the element gold which, being non-corrosive, chokes their respiratory systems, a property exploited by the glittergun used during the Cyber-Wars. On occasion, the mere touch of gold is toxic to them. Gold coins or gold-tipped arrows can destroy them. Gold also blocks their sensors and causes the cybermats to malfunction. Other weaknesses of the Cybermen include the combination of solvents known as Cocktail Polly and excessive levels of radiation.
20th century guns can damage Cybermen, but do not kill them. Explosives and bazooka shells take them down easily. UNIT have developed gold-tipped rounds to combat Cybermen. At close range, attacks with energy and laser weapons can kill Cybermen. Raston Warrior Robots count Cybermen among the many beings they can kill. Although equipped only with javelins and blades, the technology of the robots allow them to easily destroy several Cybermen.
The Cybermen sometimes use a Cyberlance, a powerful, hand-held cutting weapon. They also use a Cyberscope, a device that allow Cyber commanders to view the battlefield remotely and access a computer database (containing, among other data, information on their race's encounters with the Doctor). Cybermen have a built-in distress signal in their heads that can be activated manually.
The Cybermen are strong enough to kill with their hands without any extra weaponry or electric-based attack. Throughout their history, Cybermen, for the most part, have lacked individuality or names. This is a result of their emotions being removed during the conversion process.
Cybermen in positions of authority include the ground level Cyber-Leader who commands a group of ordinary Cybermen. Cyber-Leaders are sometimes aided by a Cyber-Lieutenant. Immobile computer-like Cyber-Planners sometimes make decisions and long term plans. The Cyber-Controllers, who possess enlarged craniums, have the position of highest possible authority.
Cybermen no longer possess emotions and view them as a weakness. However, several of the Cyber-Leaders display characteristics that could be linked to emotions such as anger, amusement, and, at times, smugness.

The Autons (Part 4 - Plastic Fantastic)
The Autons are metamorphic android robots, artificial life forms which are essentially life sized plastic dummies animated by the Nestene Consciousness. Though they are not the only creations of the Nestene Consciousness, they are the most common and the most easily identifiable.
The typical Auton does not look particularly lifelike. It resembles a mannequin, is robotic in its movements and mute, although an Auton leader might speak in a robotic voice. Despite their solid appearance, Autons can change the shape of their features and limbs. Autons conceal deadly weapons within their hands, which can kill or vaporise their targets using psychic projections. These are powerful enough to temporarily disable a weakened Dalek. Some can also shoot a tranquilizing gas from their hands. They are also excellent trackers, able to find other creatures by their brain-wave patterns.
More sophisticated Autons can be created. They can look and act human except for a slight sheen to the skin and a flat-sounding voice. Autons can also copy specific individuals, though these copies were imperfect. When duplicated, the originals were kept alive to maintain the copy.
Even more accurate Autons can be made, identical in appearance and actions to their models. These Autons are implanted with false memories and actually believe themselves to be the subjects they duplicated. The can be used as sleep agents and the Nestene Consciousness later asserts its influence over them. Autons are extremely long-"lived". They are vulnerable to intense heat, as this causes them to melt. Radio waves can also destroy them, as they could interfere with the Nestene's mental control. Bullets have almost no effect on them.
In addition to the basic Auton, more agile and manoeuvrable models are made as duplicates of humans. When destroyed, the duplicates reverted to the appearance of a basic Auton. They were nearly identical to their counterparts, with a slight yellowing and glint of the skin.

The Daleks (Part 5 - Revolution Of The Daleks)
Daleks are the mutated descendants of the Kaleds of the planet Skaro. Regarded by the Doctor as his greatest enemy, the Daleks are hated and feared throughout time and space. They are the oldest and most frequent foes of the Doctor, having faced him several times in every one of his incarnations.
Although the Daleks look entirely robotic, they are in fact cybernetic organisms or cyborgs, with a biological body encased in and supported by a protective outer shell of Dalekanium metal armour, armed and mobile. In this respect, they are somewhat similar to a Cyberman; unlike them, however, the Daleks' bodies have mutated so drastically from their Kaled ancestors they have lost all humanoid appearance, save for one eye. The Daleks share information using a sort of telepathic network known as the Pathweb.
Externally, the Daleks resemble human-sized peppershakers, with a single mechanical eyestalk in a rotating dome, a gunstick and a manipulator arm. The casings are made of both polycarbide and dalekanium. The lower part of the shell is covered with 56 hemi-spherical protrusions, which can serve as a self-destruct system.
The Dalek's eyepiece is its most vulnerable spot – as there is no back-up system if this is obscured, damaged or destroyed – and impairing its vision often leads to its main weapon being fired indiscriminately. The Dalek casing also functions as a fully-sealed environment suit, allowing travel through the vacuum of space or underwater without the need for additional life-support equipment. A Dalek's eyepiece can be connected to other Dalek vision centres.
A Dalek is connected to its casing through a positronic link. The mutant itself accesses nutrient feeders and control
mechanisms inside its internal chamber. Previously, Daleks were are baffled by stairs, which made them easy to overcome under the right circumstances. However, they are now able to hover, or fly under their own power like small spacecraft.
During his first encounter with them on Skaro, the First Doctor learned that the casing was externally powered by static electricity transmitted through the metal floors of the Dalek City. Isolating a Dalek from the floor using a non-conductive material shut down the casing, although it was not immediately fatal to the occupant. The Daleks overcame this defect by adding dishes to their casing to receive power.
The casing is booby-trapped, making even dead Daleks a dangerous foe. They are frequently equipped with virus transmitters which work automatically. Furthermore, the armour contains an automated distress beacon which activates if disturbed.
The inner casing, in which the actual Dalek resides, also holds a life support system and a battle-computer for strategic and tactical knowledge. The Dalek Mutant operates the casings manually. Once removed, other life forms can pilot one if they can fit within. It is the brain of the Dalek and the true creature that hates everything not a Dalek. They are usually genetically mutated Kaleds or, at times, other species captured by the Daleks. They are depicted with multiple tentacular protrusions, a normal right eye and a left eye so reduced in size as to be easily missed. Despite their apparent lack of any motive capability they are capable of defending themselves.
The Daleks also have their own ranking systems, each of which are represented by a different colour casing. The ranks in ascending order are:
Warrior Daleks - also known as the Dalek drones, they have a muddy brown colour casing with dark brown hemi-spherical protrusions and features. They are the Daleks that are sent out on the front line - the soldiers of the race. These are the most significant Daleks with millions in each Dalek battalion.
Special Weapons Dalek - with only two in existence, the SWD is a very rare model. It's design similar to the other Daleks but
equipped with a specially adapted hover-board, four sensors (one on its front, one on its back and one at each side of the hover-board), and two powerful Dalek gun blasters. They have a silver casing with black hemi-spherical protrusions and features.
Scientists - they have a white casing with black hemi-spherical protrusions and features. They build, operate and repair all of the Daleks weapons, controls etc. There are only six Dalek Scientists in each battalion.
Dalek Commanders - they have a dark green casing with black hemi-spherical protrusions and features. They command the Warrior Daleks on the front line. There are three Dalek commanders to each battalion.
Dalek Coordinators - they have a blood red casing with gold hemi-spherical protrusions and features. There are just a handful of these in each battalion, varying between three and five depending on the size of the battle fleet.
Supreme Dalek - the Supreme Dalek is larger than the rest of the battle fleet. It has a separate base which allows it to teleport. Its main torso is a larger scale of the 'skirt design' but with just six hemi-spherical protrusions. Its chest sports six panels, each separated by a hemi-spherical protrusion, as well as its Manipulator and gun stick. Its head is a regular Dalek top with an eyestalk and two luminosity dischargers. Its casing is a dark grey with black hemi-spherical protrusions and features.
Dalek Prime - the Dalek Prime also has an exclusive design: instead of the skirt-like bottom of the other Daleks, the Dalek Prime features a rounded, levitating bottom, though the 'skirt design' is partially visible just above this where its hemi-spherical protrusions are placed; above this is a rotating panel where its Manipulator and gun stick are housed, while the top of the Dalek is a larger bulbous shape with several luminosity dischargers and its eyestalk. The Dalek Prime has a pale blue casing with dark blue hemi-spherical protrusions and features.
Dalek Emperor - the Dalek Emperor has a very different design to the Dalek battle fleet. It's styled almost as a fully standing robot which can move more freely than the others. It has the basic skirt-like Dalek bottom but, on top of that it has a shelled hunchback torso with extendable Manipulator and gun stick which balances on top of a metal pod containing the Dalek mutant. The head of the Supreme Dalek is a larger metal pod with an extendable robotic eyestalk. It sports a gold colour casing with silver hemi-spherical protrusions.

Davros (Part 5 - Revolution Of The Daleks)
Davros was originally the head of the Kaled Scientific Elite, on the planet Skaro, but became better known as the creator of the Daleks — at least according to one account of the Dalek history. During the Imperial-Renegade Dalek Civil War, he served as Emperor of the Imperial Dalek faction and later of the Dalek race as a whole, but his relationship with his creations is always tense. He is frequently hunted, maligned or otherwise denigrated by some portion of the overall Dalek population.
Despite the fact that he is not the unquestioned ruler of the Daleks, he is one of the Doctor's greatest enemies, rivalling the Master in intellect and madness.
Davros is essentially a man in a Dalek suit. His skin is discoloured and sagging, and his body has been crippled by some accident in his past, leaving him without the use his legs or his left arm. His Kaled body is humanoid, though a lens in his forehead replaces his lost vision, allowing him a semblance of sight. This makes him look like a Dalek from a distance. A metal brace is attached to his head, and wires are plugged into his skull.
Davros also has a throat microphone implant to enhance his damaged voice. He has only his right hand, complete with a prosthetic metal hand, which he uses to operate controls on his chariot. These could perform functions for controlling doors, the Dalek drones, or his own life support system. Davros' chair has anti-gravity gravitors that enables him to hover.
