The Doctor
The Doctor is an Timelord from the planet Gallifrey, who travels through time and space in an internally vast time machine called the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space) which appears relatively small when seen from the outside.
The Doctor has a grand-daughter Susan Foreman, who had previously travelled with him, and he has been known to have a brother but, he rarely speaks of his family life. His best friend at the Timelord Academy was a renegade Timelord called The Master, however, since then The Master has become one of the Doctor's deadliest enemies, though they do have their moments of gratitude towards one and other.
When The Doctor is critically injured, he can regenerate his body but in doing so gains a new physical appearance and with it, a distinct new personality. Now in his Eighth incarnation, the Doctor is a more passionate, enthusiastic and eccentric character with a small hint of sarcasm. Overtime, the Eighth Doctor has become much darker and tends to be a bit more vengeful when confronting his foes.
The Doctor's age is an extremely confusing subject - so confusing that the Doctor himself isn't so sure of it. He's previously mentioned that he was 1012 years old, however, after a time he began to count the years from his most recent regeneration, making him by this adventure, 17 years old. He has also presented his age as 1125, and claimed that he rounded and adjusted his age based on different year lengths in different parts of the universe. In previous incarnations the Doctor has stated his age as 296, 450, 730, 748, 749, 756, 757, 759, 760, 813, 900, 953, 991, 1000, 1009, and even several thousand years old.
The Doctor is nearly always found travelling with at least one companion - with the exception of a trip to Gallifrey in his fourth incarnation - Alexa being the latest. The Doctor and Alexa initially tend to disagree quite a lot, however, over the course of the series, they become closer and begin to trust each other more.

Alexa Foster
Alexa Foster is 30 years old and born in Birmingham. At 18, she joined University of Birmingham to study Creative Writing. She left University at the age of 23 with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in the subject. At the age of 25, she achieved her childhood dream of becoming a best-selling author with the first Mystery Man novel The Night Before Last. She released her second novel Graceful Souls the year after. After a successful run of nine novels, Alexa decided that her tenth book would be the last in the series as she could no longer think of ideas. That was before she met her very own Mystery Man - the Doctor.
After being followed by a mysterious stranger and finally tracking him down, Alexa finds out that his life is in danger and only she can save him. What could she do? She was a writer - and a young one at that. How could she possible help this man she'd barely known 30 seconds. And how did he know where to find her? It was a different place every time, a different time. Was he stalking her - watching her every move? Was he just lucky? Whatever it was, it creeped her out. But, for some reason, she found herself wanting to help. She was that sort of person.
The Doctor and Alexa, in the TARDIS, arguing again - for the third time today... if it still was today. Alexa thought back to the day the Doctor had asked for her help. What if she had said no? Why did she say yes in the first place? This man's life was dependant on her, and she hadn't a clue what she need to do. Why did he trust her? Why her? She was nothing special. Why had he asked for her? Well, whatever she thought might have happened if she'd said no, there was no going back now. The Doctor and her were stuck with each other, at least until this ordeal was over.
